• LAY SERVANT BASICS (BASIC CLASS):
This class challenges Lay Servants to develop caring, leading, and communicating skills that support their church and encourage others to a deeper commitment in Christ and faithful discipleship. Participants are encouraged to discover their personal spiritual gifts and to consider the importance of servant leadership.
Instructor is Rev. Kalesita Tu’ifua, the pastor at Knollwood UMC.
This class is required for Certified Lay Servant status.
• SPIRITUAL GIFTS & THE HOLY SPIRIT (Advanced Class ):
This course helps participants understand spiritual gifts and how the church can use them
to fulfill its mission and ministry. Participants will also learn what it means to be a spiritual
leader and will be equipped to lead others in exploring and using their spiritual gifts.
Instructor is Rev. Garth Gilliam, the pastor at Sherman Oaks UMC.
This course qualifies as an Advanced Class needed to become or retain Certified Lay Servant status.
• LEADING SMALL GROUPS THAT TRANSFORM (Advanced Class):
This course teaches the Wesleyan way to form missional communities and congregations.
It is based on the conviction that just as holiness of heart leads to holiness of life, it is
communities of holy love that participate in God’s mission in the world.
Instructor is Rev. Dr. Terry Van Hook, Agapé Journey Ministries, retired conference elder.
This course qualifies as an Advanced Class needed to become or retain Certified Lay Servant status.

These class are open to anyone, but especially those seeking certification or re-certification in the wide spread "Lay Speakers" program of the United Methodist Church.
If you desire to be a local or Certified Lay Servants, you are invited to attend.
One Advanced Course is required every three years to become or retain Certified Lay Servant status.
Attendance is required at all sessions for credit.
