The "Daily Offices"

Evening Prayer is part of the historic Daily Offices of prayer

used for centuries by the Christian Church.

Morning (Prime)  and Evening (Vespers)  Prayer

are the two most central and widely practiced.

The others fill in the day on a historic three hour pattern.

They include:

  • Prime (first hour of daylight)
  • Terce (third hour)
  • Sext (noon)
  • Nones (ninth hour)
  • Vespers (sunset evening)
  • Compline (end of the day)
  • Matins (nighttime)
  • Lauds (early morning)
